Sandwich sewing and swimwear

It is often used in corsetry and beachwear. This assembly option is generally chosen for aesthetic reasons. This type of assembly means that there are no visible seams on the front of the swimming costume.

This is the assembly we use to make MAEVA and GIULIETTA swimwear.

Supplies

For our tutorial we will use

  • a jacquard-type textile
  • a swimming costume liner
  • la laminette
  • a sewing machine and optional serger

The tutorial and its tips

  • Layer fabric over lining: right sides together
  • Position the laminate on the seam allowance - on the fabric side (not the lining)

Assemble
- with an overlock stitch machine.
OR
- on a zig-zag sewing machine

  • Unfold the parts.
  • Assemble the lining to the laminate (attached to the seam value) on the sewing machine using a zigzag stitch. This seam will only be visible on the reverse side of the swimming costume and will stabilise the lining.

THE MOST IMPORTANT THING: POSITION THE ZIG ZAG STITCH CORRECTLY
The zig zag must be positioned on the laminate but the end of the stitches must ONLY be stitched into the lining!
You therefore need to sew along the edge of the laminate.

This topstitching will stabilise the lining and prevent the laminate from rolling the lining forward.

For reasons of accessibility, it will not be possible to topstitch the entire length of the assembly - for example, in the straps area, etc.
The key is to topstitch in the areas that are accessible with the machine. Even a small amount of topstitching will suffice. The tension applied to the shirt will take care of the rest.
