    Here's how to make a comfortable and elegant bra.

    Its princess-cut cups and the different variations available make it a timeless and original model.

    Alma is a versatile pattern, equally suited to a basic creation or a more sophisticated version.

    Available in 3 cup sizes B/C, D/E and F/G from size 34 to 52 (French sizes), with or without back hooks.

    You can choose from 5 designs in lycra or lace:

    The 2 versions A and B offer more coverage:
    - A: traditional bra without back fastening
    - B: bra with V-shaped insert and back fastening

    Versions C, D and E are more low-cut:
    - C: traditional bra without back fastening
    - D: bra with V-shaped insert and back fastening
    - E: bra with an insert and a decorative double ring at the front; with hook and eye fastening at the back

    Patterns A and C are the easiest to make; ideal if you're a beginner or making your first piece of lingerie. Patterns B, D and E are the most complex to make.

    For each version, the front and back are lined with powernet to ensure a snug fit.

    The pattern is available as a downloadable version or in a paper pack. The pattern is available in French.

    I suggest you make an underwired bra.

    The Lilly pattern is an underwired bra specially designed for generous breasts. The model's interlocking cups, cut and finish offer an optimal fit while enhancing the silhouette. The model combines support, comfort and elegance.

    There are 3 models to choose from:
    - A: all in stretch lace, lace back lined with powernet.
    - B: stretch or non-stretch lace cups and powernet back straps.
    - C: fabric or lace cups without scale and powernet back bands

    To ensure the necessary support, the design incorporates :
    - marquisette-lined stockings and basque, - powernet medium back straps.
    - a 15mm wide elastic band under the chest.

    The cup is made of 3 pieces. The upper part of the top cup is made of lace for more femininity.

    The pattern comes with a few additional tips and tricks to make it evolve: changing the back, height of the back fastener, etc. You'll find all this information in the technical instructions, which are only available as a downloadable version. When you purchase the pattern in the form of a pouch, the instructions can be downloaded directly to your account.

    NINA is a bra without underwiring. Its design ensures optimum support for an ultra-feminine, comfortable effect. Ideal for everyday wear!
    If you're just starting to make a bra, NINA is the ideal pattern: its assembly range is similar to that of an underwired bra without having to assemble the underwire cover (although this is covered without the complexity of an underwired bra). It's also a perfect bra for young girls, offering a bra without underwiring that's both comfortable and aesthetically pleasing.

    The cup is made in 2 pieces for a harmonious neckline.

    It is available in 2 different versions:
    - model A with fabric cups
    - model B with lace cups
    There are 2 types of back for each size:
    - a classic back
    - a "swimmer" back for better support

    You can use a variety of fabrics: lace, lycra-type polyamide, simplex ... It's up to you!

Quelle est l’origine du nom soutien-gorge ?

L’origine du nom « soutien-gorge » est purement française et remonte au début du XXe siècle. Le terme est composé de deux mots simples : « soutien », qui signifie « support » ou « maintien », et « gorge », un ancien terme français désignant la poitrine féminine et plus particulièrement la partie située entre le cou et les seins. Cette appellation descriptive reflète parfaitement la fonction principale du vêtement : soutenir et maintenir la poitrine. Le mot « gorge » était couramment utilisé dans la littérature et la mode française pour évoquer élégamment cette partie du corps féminin, notamment dans les expressions comme « décolleté de gorge ». Contrairement aux termes anglais « brassiere » ou « bra », le français a donc opté pour une dénomination littérale et fonctionnelle qui s’est imposée naturellement dans la langue courante dès les années 1920.

Qui a inventé le premier soutien-gorge ?

Mary Phelps Jacob, une socialiste américaine, est créditée de l’invention du premier soutien-gorge moderne en 1913. Âgée de seulement 19 ans, elle créa ce vêtement révolutionnaire en cousant ensemble deux mouchoirs en soie et du ruban rose pour remplacer le corset contraignant qu’elle portait sous sa robe de soirée. Jacob breveta son invention le 3 novembre 1914 sous le nom de « Backless Brassiere », marquant ainsi la naissance officielle du soutien-gorge tel que nous le connaissons aujourd’hui. Cette innovation libéra les femmes des corsets rigides et inconfortables qui dominaient la mode féminine depuis des siècles.

Qui est l’ancêtre du soutien-gorge

C’est le corset. Le corset constitue le principal ancêtre du soutien-gorge, dominant la mode féminine du XVIe au début du XXe siècle. Apparu à la Renaissance, le corset était conçu pour sculpter la silhouette féminine en resserrant la taille et en rehaussant la poitrine grâce à des baleines en métal ou en os de baleine. Bien qu’il offrait un maintien efficace du buste, le corset présentait de nombreux inconvénients : il limitait les mouvements, comprimait les organes internes et causait parfois des problèmes de santé. C’est justement pour remédier à ces défauts que des innovatrices comme Mary Phelps Jacob développèrent des alternatives plus confortables, donnant naissance au soutien-gorge moderne qui allie maintien et liberté de mouvement.
