Before you start sewing your elastic waistband, keep these fundamental principles in mind:<\/p>\n

- Use always the type d’\u00e9lastique et la largeur pr\u00e9conis\u00e9s par votre patron<\/strong>. Pour une taille de culotte, on utilise g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement un pantalon ou un short. decorative elastic <\/a>\u00a0from 7 to 10mm, or a Pikot elastic, wider (11\/12 mm)<\/a> for larger sizes.<\/li>\n
- Mesurez la largeur de l’\u00e9lastique excluding the decorative part<\/strong> (picots, festons). C’est cette mesure qui d\u00e9termine votre valeur de couture.<\/li>\n
- During sewing, it is essential d’\u00e9tirer l\u00e9g\u00e8rement l’\u00e9lastique<\/strong> to prevent your seams from gaping. Attention: Do not apply any tension to the fabric underneath<\/strong>, at the risk of distorting your work.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

Comment calculer la longueur d’un \u00e9lastique de taille<\/h2>\n
The correct sizing of your waistband elastic is crucial: too long, it won't hold; too short, your pants will be uncomfortable.<\/p>\n
Les \u00e9lastiques poss\u00e8dent un pouvoir d’\u00e9tirement naturel. Pour la taille d’une culotte ou d’un shorty, nous pr\u00e9conisons de r\u00e9duire la longueur de l’\u00e9lastique de 5 \u00e0 7 %<\/strong> compared to the seam line measured on the pattern.<\/p>\n
Why not more than 7 %?<\/h3>\n
Votre patron a d\u00e9j\u00e0 \u00e9t\u00e9 con\u00e7u avec un coefficient de r\u00e9duction int\u00e9gr\u00e9 (environ 8 % pour une culotte, 12 \u00e0 15 % pour un maillot de bain). \u00c0 la pose, l’\u00e9lastique devra donc s’\u00e9tirer pour compenser cette r\u00e9duction, more<\/em> l’\u00e9tirement n\u00e9cessaire pour enfiler le v\u00eatement, more<\/em> les 5 \u00e0 7 % de r\u00e9duction que vous appliquez. Aller au-del\u00e0 de 7 %, c’est prendre le risque d’un v\u00eatement trop serr\u00e9 au port\u00e9.<\/p>\n
Vous pouvez cependant prendre plus que 7 % si vous souhaitez un effet plus fronc\u00e9, mais attention \u00e0 ne pas trop \u00e9tirer l’\u00e9lastique au risque d’\u00eatre inconfortable.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n
The calculation method<\/h3>\n

- \u00c0 l’aide d’un m\u00e8tre ruban, mesurez on the pattern<\/strong> la longueur de la ligne de taille sur laquelle sera pos\u00e9 l’\u00e9lastique. Ne mesurez pas directement sur le tissu : les textiles stretch se d\u00e9forment facilement et le r\u00e9sultat sera fauss\u00e9.<\/li>\n

Sew a decorative elastic waistband (scalloped or picot)<\/h2>\n

- Positionnez l’\u00e9lastique endroit contre endroit<\/strong> du tissu, en r\u00e9partissant l’embu de fa\u00e7on homog\u00e8ne, puis \u00e9pinglez. Si l’\u00e9lastique poss\u00e8de un c\u00f4t\u00e9 doux (velours), il s’agit de l’envers. Attention \u00e0 bien orienter les picots vers l’ext\u00e9rieur du v\u00eatement.

- If needed, Trim the excess fabric.<\/strong> de l’\u00e9lastique pour un envers parfaitement propre.<\/li>\n
- Rabattez l’\u00e9lastique<\/strong> sur l’envers du v\u00eatement.<\/li>\n
- Create a second seam using a zigzag stitch<\/strong> (ou zig-zag 3 points) le long du bord int\u00e9rieur de l’\u00e9lastique (c\u00f4t\u00e9 sans picots).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
Cette double couture assure un maintien solide et une finition nette, aussi bien sur l’endroit que sur l’envers de votre lingerie.<\/p>\n
Sewing a fold-over elastic waistband<\/h2>\n
L’\u00e9lastique cavalier, aussi appel\u00e9 fold-over, est une alternative int\u00e9ressante pour la taille. Il enveloppe le bord du tissu et donne un rendu propre des deux c\u00f4t\u00e9s. Il peut se poser en 1 ou 2 \u00e9tapes selon votre niveau de confort.<\/p>\n
